Experiment Safety Assessment Form (ESAF)

All experiments at the APS require an approved Experiment Safety Assessment Form (ESAF).

ESAFs are submitted through My APS Portal.

Submit your ESAF:

  • At least 14 days in advance for onsite access review.
  • At least 7 days in advance for remote/mail-in experiments.
  • As early as possible if any nonstandard activities are involved.

Dosimetry

All users accessing the APS experimental hall must wear a dosimeter.

Submit dosimeter requests at least 72 hours (3 business days) in advance.

Do not request a dosimeter unless you are current on General Employee Radiological Training (ESH738).

Training for Users

APS user courses can be completed remotely through My APS Portal

Required training must be complete before APS will approve your Experimental Safety Assessment Form (ESAF). 

There may be additional training depending on the experiment.

eBERlight Orientation

Onsite users must complete a two‑part Sector orientation before beginning any lab work.

Part 1:  Read the linked document and acknowledge completion by submitting the Microsoft Form at the end.

Part 2:  An eBERlight staff member will review the lab safety orientation checklist with you and post the ESAF with the floor coordinator.

Argonne Mobile App

Stay informed and connected to Argonne via the Argonne mobile app.

The Argonne mobile app is available for Argonne employees, facility users, and visitors on both Apple and Android devices. 

You can use the app for the following: 

  • On-site 911 call.
  • Report a safety concern or non-urgent concern.
  • Follow a two-minute, pre-work safety drill.
  • Contact the Service Desk.
  • Access a heat stress forecast/report unsafe ice or snow (seasonal).
